Minute Music: Aloe Blacc, “Femme Fatale”

Aloe Blacc’s September release of Good Things is apparently most well known for the lead-off track, “I Need a Dollar,” because it’s the theme song to some HBO show I haven’t been watching, but it should be known for this great soul rendition of the Velvet Underground and Nico’s “Femme Fatale.”

Funny you should post this, but I’m listening to the album right now, thanks to your addition of it to the ’10 short list. It’s good. A little repetitive.

This is a good cover, though, with lots of interesting choices. Dig.

Oh, and “How to Make It in America” is dreadful. It and its creators’ other child, Entourage, should get into a fight over which is the most unnecessary television show and then get swallowed into a wormhole of awfulness. “I Need a Dollar” is great though.

Also the NYT Mag piece that featured him and other soul revivalists is sort of worth a read: “Can a Nerd Have a Soul”
